iPad + Facebook + Blended Threats = IT Nightmare
Are you doing enough to manage risk in the Web 2.0 world?

It is becoming increasingly common for attacks to leverage multiple attack vectors to ensure maximum effectiveness. The Stuxnet worm for example spread via infected USB keys, network file shares, and web based update mechanisms, while leveraging a variety of known and 0day vulnerabilities. Additionally, today’s spam email is not generally a self-contained attack, but rather a social engineering component of a larger attack, designed to convince a victim to interact with web based content. Spam email is also only one of many communication mediums being abused for social engineering. Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook are often replacing email altogether as a means for attackers to communicate with their victims. There is no longer a single point of entry. A malware campaign may target victims via both spam email and infected web pages. Or it may begin the attack cycle with a targeted email message and then leverage the web for delivery of the malicious payload and/or exfiltration of compromised data.
A defense in depth approach is more important than ever, in order to mitigate threats that may seek the path of least resistance in order to infect enterprise PCs. That means inspecting both inbound and outbound traffic, regardless of protocol and whether or not encryption is used to bypass traditional network based defenses. Policies should be consistent across web and email channels, a challenging requirement for enterprises with security solutions from disparate vendors. To further complicate matters, mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones that are used outside of the corporate LAN, must also receive equal levels of protection, and for these platforms, host based solutions are often not an option. In this webcast we will discuss the increasing sophistication of blended threats and debate whether SaaS based web and email security is a viable approach to combat such threats.
