Multi-Tenant Architecture with a High-Performance OS and Proxy Platform to Deliver Fast Response Time and Reliability
Technology
Delivering an effective SaaS web security requires a new architecture and several new technologies. In order to overcome latency issues, Zscaler has created a new standard for a cloud-delivered security service that is multi-tenant and delivers high-performance. This is deployed as a Distributed Network of data centers around the globe.
Zscaler’s well-designed in-the-cloud service with integrated functionality provides high security and granular control at low TCO.
Brian Burke, IDC
Zscaler is deploying its Distributed Global Network infrastructure in over 30 data centers around the globe. By enforcing the user’s policy at the nearest data center, Zscaler ensures ultra-low latency, leading to positive end-user experience. Traditional web security vendors only have 2-6 data centers. Their single-tenant architecture, built upon a Squid-like proxy, constrains them from deploying a larger number of data centers. Learn more
High Performance Proxies using IntelliSpect Engine
While traditional proxies handle about 100-150 Mbps of sustained throughput, Zscaler proxies can handle up to 10 Gbps. The high performance of Zscaler proxies allows them to perform full content inspection, providing better detection against security threats. This ensures accurate application identification with ultra-low latency. The latency introduced by Zscaler per web transaction is tens of microseconds, while the latency of traditional proxies per transaction is tens of milliseconds—a 1000-fold difference. Learn more.
Page Risk Index
Signature-based technologies can only be used to detect known threats. Reputation systems can only block known IP addresses and domains. In Web 2.0, where users are the creators of content, domain-based reputation is not effective. Zscaler has developed a Page Risk Index that dynamically computes risk scores for each page as it is delivered, without introducing noticeable latency. Learn more.
Multi-tenant Architecture

Like Salesforce.com’s platform, Zscaler's platform was purpose-built to support a multi-tenant SaaS architecture. The multi-tenant architecture allows our Internet gateways to handle multiple customers using a single instance of our infrastructure. This delivers ultra-low latency, while enforcing a user’s policy, no matter what part of the globe he or she is in. Learn more.

NanoLog™ Technology
Zscaler’s NanoLog technology reduces web log size, without losing any information, by using a number of proprietary and patent-pending technologies, including differential data, indexing and compression. These technologies deliver a 50-fold reduction in log size. An enterprise that generates 50 Gb of web logs per day with traditional proxies requires only 1 Gb per day, while retaining the same information. NanoLog technology also provides high-speed access to search and retrieve web logs for analysis. Learn more.
Managed Security Services versus True SaaS
As SaaS has been popularized by companies such as Salesforce.com, NetSuite and Google/Postini, many security appliance vendors are claiming to have a SaaS service by placing their existing appliances in data centers. Most of these services are built upon open source Squid proxies, which is a single-tenant architecture that is not suitable as a SaaS service. Learn more
