One of the tools required in business today is fast and secure access to the internet and SaaS applications that employees need to do their work, regardless of where they connect. Location should not be a factor when it comes to the productivity of your employees. The transformation to cloud services increases business agility and productivity, no matter where your users work. But some regions, such as China, present unique regulatory and business environments that can, at times, inhibit the ability of an organization to attain those goals.
As multinational companies based outside of China expand their presence in mainland China, their intention is to extend the same access and security afforded to their employees around the globe to those based in mainland China. Unfortunately, complex and stringent regulatory environments and congested international traffic routes often introduce performance issues that challenge their ability to fulfill this need. Businesses struggle to connect their users in mainland China to the international websites and applications they need to be productive in a secure and efficient way.
Traditionally, organizations have had two options to address this challenge. The first was to route international traffic over an independent private network connection or MPLS in China to egress to international destinations. The second option was to route traffic through select Chinese providers offering special premium networks to provide better performance when accessing international sites. However, both approaches require local IT support and can be costly and complex to manage.

Zscaler is uniquely positioned to help customers move beyond traditional solutions to create a more seamless connectivity and security experience. For multinational organizations that are looking to enhance productivity and improve access to international websites and SaaS applications for their China-based employees, Zscaler provides several options.
Over the last several years, Zscaler has offered solutions that leverage our Zscaler Private Service Edge to improve performance. Our Private Service Edge portfolio allows Zscaler customers to "bring your own network” (BYON) to the Zscaler solution. This means that the customer can use ZIA together with an available premium international solution from any third-party provider in China.
Additionally, Zscaler is introducing two new offerings to enable multinational organizations to transform user experience and productivity for their users in mainland China. Zscaler China Premium Access solutions combine the security of Zscaler bundled with premium internet connectivity:
The first of these two Zscaler-managed options pairs Zscaler security with the Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) to enable organizations to prioritize international traffic into and out of China by routing traffic toward the Alibaba cloud and terminating it at a Zscaler connection point of their choosing anywhere around the world. The second option enables customers to achieve in-country break and inspect by routing traffic to a Zscaler data center hosted on a premium Chinese ISP that provides access to both domestic internet in China and premium access to international websites and SaaS applications.
“Simplicity is prerequisite for reliability.” – Edsger Dijkstra
Zscaler China Premium Access solutions help multinational organizations navigate connectivity complexities and enhance performance, consistency, and reliability for users inside China connecting to international websites and SaaS applications, such as Microsoft 365 and Salesforce. By delivering security and internet connectivity as a combined SaaS-delivered solution, organizations can simplify IT and reduce operating expenses, compliance risk, and deployment complexity in mainland China.
