At Zscaler, our "AI Forward, People First" philosophy is rooted in the belief that AI doesn't replace expertise—it amplifies it. We are cultivating a culture where AI innovators are those who look at established processes and ask, "How can we do this better?" Meet Henry Shen, Principal Sales Engineer, who turned a quest for productivity into a breakthrough in product innovation. When Zscaler made a bold commitment to embrace AI across how we work, I saw an opportunity to rethink my own day-to-day as a Principal Sales Engineer. I’d spent years helping customers translate Zero Trust principles into practical outcomes. But with the latest wave of agentic AI, I realized I could augment my role in ways that weren’t possible before. The First Step: Reclaiming Time for StrategyMy journey started with a simple desire to clear the noise. Like many in technical sales, I found that routine, essential tasks were consuming the hours I wanted to spend on deep strategy.I began leveraging ZChat, our internal AI assistant, to handle time-consuming tasks. I treated the AI not as a search engine, but as a junior analyst. By giving it a specific persona or role, I get better output:The Synthesizer: Instead of spending an hour organizing raw data, I use AI to synthesize discovery notes into clear, actionable summaries in minutes. The Translator: I often need to turn dense technical specifications into crisp executive narratives. AI helps me bridge the gap between "engineer speak" and "C-suite strategy."The Stress-Tester: Before a big presentation, I pressure-test my demo scripts against specific industry pain points, using the AI to simulate tough customer questions. The results were immediate. Tasks that once took an hour now took minutes. I reclaimed hours every week that I channeled into higher-impact activities: deep design sessions with customers and crucial field feedback loops. The Leap from Assistant to InnovatorReclaiming my time was just the beginning. I began digging deeper into agentic AI—systems that don’t just respond to prompts but can reason, plan, and act across different tools. I asked myself: If these capabilities make me more effective, could they also solve the user-experience friction we sometimes see in the field? While the security promise of Zero Trust is widely embraced, the implementation requires a shift from "over-permissioned" to "least privilege principles". By introducing an agentic layer, we bridge the gap between security permission models and user productivity. Chatbots act as an intelligent intermediary to streamline interactions, translate existing legacy complexity to clear Zero Trust guidance, and help people move forward confidently within established guardrails. It was built to complement existing controls and processes, enhancing clarity and speed while respecting security and compliance boundaries. When I shared the prototype with our Product Management team, the response was energizing. They saw the potential for this to make Zero Trust accessible without compromising rigor.Delivering New ValueWhat excites me most is the broader impact. This prototype showed us an opportunity to work faster and more confidently. By bringing a fresh, end-user-centric perspective to Zero Trust, we are making strong security feel simple and approachable. But this innovation relies on a crucial partnership: AI capability plus human judgment. While the model can reason and act across tools, it doesn’t live in our customers’ world the way I do. My unique contribution is applying judgment under real-world constraints—translating messy field context, business priorities, and risk tolerance into clear requirements. I decide what “good” looks like, when to proceed, and when to stop.By combining deep domain knowledge with agentic AI, I’ve unlocked a new dimension in my role—bridging the gap between architecting solutions for customers and actively shaping the product itself. AI hasn't replaced my expertise; it has amplified it, allowing me to deliver value that is clearer, faster, and more impactful for our industry. Are you ready to make an impact and innovate?
Zscaler’s People Services team wrapped up their first-ever AI Hackathon, bringing together teams in India, EMEA, Asia, and the Americas to pause their daily work and answer one radical question: How can we use AI to disrupt our own work?Glitching the Status QuoPeople Services is our front-line HR operations team helping to manage our data and help employees access benefits and services. This team’s work is often intentionally invisible—seamless for the employee, but manually intensive behind the scenes. The goal of the hackathon wasn't just efficiency; it was empowerment–giving the team the agency to solve their own pain points and prove that you don't need "engineer" in your title to build powerful solutions. As People Services leader Aaron Webb likes to say, they wanted to "glitch the status quo."The Journey: From Nervous to UnstoppablePrior to the hackathon, most People Services team members were using AI for the basics: drafting emails and summarizing notes. But once they were given targeted training on how to leverage AI and the permission to experiment, the hesitation vanished.Teams moved from "AI Curious" to "AI Capable," building functional Proofs of Concept that solved real-life problems."I went from 'I have no idea what I'm doing' to 'Look at this masterpiece we created' in record time! I don't make the rules. It didn’t just make me proud, it made me feel genuinely unstoppable. I’m a builder now." — Nella Loria, Sr. People Services SpecialistReal Solutions, Real ImpactOver the course of the hackathon, 15 teams built working prototypes to automate processes and solve bottlenecks that had leadership saying, "We need this live NOW."The Parental Leave Planner The Pain: 600+ complex cases a year requiring high-touch manual support. The Fix: A scalable AI assistant that instantly guides colleagues through complex policies and local laws, giving them clarity and peace of mind when they need it most. The Offer Letter AI Assistant The Pain: Manually reviewing long offer letters for compliance is slow and risky. Accuracy matters. The Fix: An AI auditor that uses semantic analysis to instantly flag compliance risks, ensuring we move fast without breaking things. The Onboarding Buddy The Pain: New hires want to feel supported from day 1, and this often requires a heavy lift from experts to help ramp them up.The Fix: A customized new hire "Buddy" that gives instant access to essential knowledge, allowing our team to focus on the human connection rather than answering repeated process questions. The Future of Work is Being Built HereDuring the People Services AI Hackathon, a team with no prior coding experience successfully architected a fully autonomous AI Agent—proving that AI can remove barriers and empower non-technical teammates to develop powerful solutions. This experience shows that at Zscaler, we aren't just deploying AI tools to our teams. We’re trusting our teams to embrace AI to build the tools they need. Interested in joining a team that empowers you to build? Check out our Careers Page.

At Zscaler, our commitment to community values is driven by the passion of our people. This story is brought to you directly by three of our incredible employees — Claire Lefevre, Charlotte Decourteix Turquet, and Mathieu Tourisseau — who were part of the team that ran the Orange Vélodrome Trail for the Association Vendredi 13. Read on for their perspective on a grueling but rewarding day of turning physical effort into direct social action. The energy at the Orange Vélodrome was electric. As we lined up for the 6th Orange Vélodrome Trail (OVT), we felt a mix of nerves and excitement. But we weren’t alone. We were part of a massive, united front of 60 participants — a powerful mix of Zscaler employees, our partners at Orange Cyberdefense, and a supportive group of our own family and friends.More Than Just a RunOur commitment extends beyond the cloud. We proudly collaborated with Orange Cyberdefense for this year’s trail to support the Association Vendredi 13, an organization dedicated to fighting food insecurity in the city of Marseille. This partnership meant we didn't just watch from the sidelines. The Zscaler team along with our families and friends, laced up our sneakers to take on the legendary trail ourselves.A Trail Like No OtherThe Orange Vélodrome Trail is a sporting challenge you simply can't compare to anything else. Forget a flat, predictable city course. We took on a unique urban trail that promised a look behind the scenes at the Orange Vélodrome, the Stade Delort, and the Prado shopping center.Running through the stadium felt surreal. The course took us into areas usually reserved for the stars—running through the locker rooms, past the press area, and even alongside the trophy room and the Olympians' playing field. It was an absolute adrenaline rush, and every step felt steeped in history. The greatest physical challenge was the stairs, with over 2,000 steps to climb and descend! Our legs were burning, but the immense team spirit around us kept us pushing forward. The Meaning Behind the StepsOur partnership with Orange Cyberdefense was driven by the opportunity to contribute directly to Vendredi 13. Founded in 2018, Vendredi 13 tackles food insecurity head-on. They distribute meals and food supplies to a wide range of vulnerable groups, including displaced communities, refugees, the elderly, and people with reduced mobility. It is a crucial safety net for people who might otherwise fall through the cracks. In 2025 alone, their impact on Marseille was considerable:153,000 encounters and food aid actions.235,000 people served, equivalent to 450,000 meals.416 tons of food were distributed.Every step up those stadium stairs was worth it, directly supporting this mission to help the most vulnerable members of the community.A Successful Finish, A Stronger CommunityThe roar of the crowd as we crossed the line was unforgettable. It was a grueling course, but the commitment shown by every member of our group was truly inspiring.Having our family and friends run alongside us made the moment even more special. We celebrated together, knowing we had not only conquered the beautiful stadium but had also upheld Zscaler’s core values of community and teamwork. We are incredibly proud to work for a company that supports initiatives that reinforce our values of social good. It was an honor to run for Zscaler, Orange Cyberdefense, and the Association Vendredi 13!

At Zscaler, we believe your next great career challenge is often found right here. Internal mobility is one of the ways we empower our people, giving our employees the opportunity to grow their career, take on greater ownership, and make a bigger impact—and you’re in the driver’s seat. We recently sat down with Gaurav S S to learn more about his successful pivot from a DevTest Engineer to a Software Development Engineer. As a DevTest Engineer, I enjoyed my work, but I reached a point where I was eager to take on bigger challenges, expand my technical toolkit, and contribute to Zscaler in a more significant way. I didn’t want to leave because I love our culture of innovation and collaboration, and the impact we make for our customers. The focus on growth was exactly what motivated me to stay.Finding My Next PlayI saw a clear path to move internally to a Software Development Engineer role, but I knew there were gaps to fill. My previous role was about scripting to automate test cases and identifying issues. This new role required me to learn how to write scalable, maintainable code in Python and, more importantly, to use critical thinking to solve open-ended technical challenges. The biggest learning curve was understanding the difference between architecture and design, which is what allows me to now join cross-functional teams for high-level discussions on project strategy.A Game-Changing TransitionThis transition was a game-changer, giving me the opportunity to leverage my existing experience and knowledge in a new way to drive more innovation and impact at Zscaler. The support I received was key—it helped me shift my mindset. I learned that the new role wasn't just about testing, but about understanding the entire architecture. Through encouragement to collaborate cross-functionally with different teams, I started to see the bigger picture. This new perspective led to me finding gaps in functionality that might have been missed before, back when the focus was just on basic testing and automation.Embracing A Wider ScopeI immediately stepped into a wider scope of work, taking on responsibilities that required me to think both strategically and tactically. One day I'm sketching out a long-term project vision; the next I'm deep in the details, problem-solving with the team.A great example is my work on a new architecture change. Through that project, I’m speaking with high-level engineers who are giving me insights that would not have been possible in my previous role. It’s opened me up to a new understanding of the development process—from how a feature is built to what its potential shortcomings are. This dynamic work is exactly what I was looking for.Making An ImpactI'm now leading projects and have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers. And by collaborating with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, I’ve gained valuable exposure that goes well beyond my technical skills, rapidly developing my abilities in leadership, communication, and problem-solving. I’m grateful for Zscaler’s commitment to letting us drive our careers. It proves that if you’re ready to own the outcome, there are so many opportunities to make your impact.Inspired to join our team?
At Zscaler, our "AI Forward, People First" philosophy is about what AI can unlock in our people. We believe an "AI Innovator" isn't just someone with AI in their title; it's anyone who embraces AI curiosity to transform how they work. We're building a culture to empower our teams to see AI not just as a tool, but as a professional partner. Meet Autumn Policicchio, a Partner Enablement Activation Manager, who shares her story of how her journey with AI began in the most unexpected way. It’s ironic: I’ve worked in the tech industry since before "the cloud" had two meanings, yet I was never someone who got excited about new technology. For years, I saw tech as just a tool for the job. But in the last year, something fundamental shifted. The AI I once imagined as science fiction became ubiquitous, and it started taking the guesswork out of my life. The "Aha!" Moment: Optimizing the Home LifeMy personal AI journey didn't start at my desk; it started in my kitchen. I wanted my family to eat better, and I wanted to spend less time on meal planning and managing our grocery budget. On a whim, I uploaded a list of groceries I keep on hand and details of a specific meal plan to a chat AI. Within minutes, it generated a full weekly plan, complete with recipes and shopping lists, perfectly optimized around my inventory. Before long, my family was eating better, and I was more efficient than ever. That personal "aha!" moment lit a fire in me. I was so impressed that I connected with Zscaler’s internal AI experts to host an info session for the Women in Zscaler Engage (WIZE) employee resource group. It was a huge hit and inspired me to become an early adopter of ZChat, Zscaler’s internal AI platform.AI as a Professional PartnerI decided to apply the same principle from my kitchen to my work: identify the biggest time sink and apply AI.As the manager for three simultaneous partner enablement programs, my bottleneck was clear: building presentations. I was constantly reinventing the wheel, and the creative drain from staring at blank slides was real. This is where AI became my professional partner and my creative assistant.A Cure for Writer’s Block: Instead of staring at a blank slide, I use AI to brainstorm outlines, session flows, and talking points, kicking off the creative process instantly.A Creative Powerhouse: AI enables me to create stunning, relevant images and visual metaphors in seconds, adding a professional polish that used to take hours. The Honest Coach: This is the most critical part. I don’t just ask for ideas; I upload my finished drafts and ask for actionable critiques. By providing detailed context and personas (e.g., "Review this as a new partner who knows nothing about Zscaler"), I get incredibly accurate feedback.I’ve learned the magic is in the prompt. If I’m not providing deep context—often full paragraphs—I'm not leveraging the full value of AI.Avoiding 'AI Workslop' with Strategic PromptingTo ensure my AI-enhanced work is truly impactful and adds substance, I employ a multi-layered approach:Strategic and Iterative Prompting: I break down complex tasks and focus on the 'why' behind the content. If an initial output feels generic, I vary my prompts to unearth deeper insights and ensure strategic alignment.Leveraging AI for Self-Critique ("Coach the Intern"): I prompt the AI to act as a senior manager coaching an intern, specifically identifying logical gaps, missing information, or assumptions. This forces the AI to move from generation to critical analysis, highlighting potential errors before they reach my audience.Persona-Based Feedback: I proactively ask the AI what an end-user (like a Zscaler partner) or a leader would question or expect. By anticipating these queries, I ensure the content is not just correct, but highly relevant, actionable, and persuasive.Full Circle: Investing in My "Why"Embracing AI has made me more efficient, but more importantly, it’s helped me invest my time back into my “why”: to accelerate my growth, develop my strengths, and become the woman my 5-year-old self would be proud and excited about. This journey came full circle this past September when I had the honor of presenting a session at Zscaler’s internal AI-First Summit on this very topic: using chat AI as your professional coach.Ultimately, by treating AI as a sophisticated thought partner—and providing it with the deep context it needs—I’ve transformed generic information into persuasive, high-impact resources. AI didn't replace my job; it elevated it.Are you ready to grow, innovate, and find your own "aha" moment?
Zscaler's AI Vision: AI Forward, People First, is capturing teams across the globe – including the Zscaler Accounting Team who discovered how to save more than 100 hours a month in automating processes.During their recent hackathon, more than 50 accountants leveraged AI to turn repetitive key accounting processes into 9 self-service automation solutions. They applied creative collaboration and expertise as users, innovators and managers to AI tools like ZChat, Glean AI, and Gemini. Their innovative solutions grew their tool use by 30% while reducing mundane and manual tasks, improving operational efficiency and making more room for meaningful, strategic work. A few examples include: Vendor Data Structuring: A task that involves structuring, validating, and filtering vendor data before uploading for use saves 25-hours a month using a ZChat-built agent.Month-End Reporting: Teams utilized AI to learn work tool automation tips for critical month-end reports, saving 8 hours per month per employee during the close.Contract Review: Glean AI was used to review complex contracts and generate summaries, which is a required input for various accounting calculations, saving 2-3 hours per contract. In Q1 2026, improvement would have saved up to 75 hours.“Our goal was to dispel the thought that AI is only for ‘super users’ and foster a culture of self-learning and process improvement. We had 11 demos, each showcasing the teams' pride in learning a new skill and applying it directly to their work. The innovations deliver tangible improvements to the daily working experience of our teams.” – Nikhil Mittal, Sr Director, Asst Controller and Strategic FinanceTheir innovative solutions will go live throughout FY26, driving digital transformation and efficiency for Zscaler’s global finance team.
For 31 years, Angel Rivera dedicated his life to serving his country in the U.S. Army, starting in combat arms and eventually transitioning to information technology. After a long and distinguished career, the next mission was a personal one: transitioning to the civilian world. Today, Angel is a Senior Sales Engineer on Zscaler’s Public Sector team, and his path here is a powerful testament to the community, growth, and culture that make a new chapter possible. We sat down with Angel to hear his story—a journey of finding camaraderie in a new team and discovering that the right company culture can make all the difference.Finding a Familiar Fit in a New WorldFor many transitioning service members, the corporate world can feel like a foreign landscape. But for Angel, Zscaler was already on his radar. "I have known about Zscaler for years, even working with the technology briefly while in uniform," he shares. The decision was made easier by a network of Army friends who had already joined the team, but his official entry point came through a Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) fellowship, which allowed him to start as an intern. This structured pathway provided a crucial bridge from military service to a corporate role, giving him a chance to learn the ropes before taking on a full-time position.Transitioning to Civilian LifeThe transition from military to civilian life involves more than just a career change; it’s a fundamental shift in daily structure, customs, and even dress code. Angel is candid about the adjustment.“The team here at Zscaler has been very welcoming, making my transition feel pretty seamless,” he says. “But it has been a big shift. I wore a uniform so long that things that are relatively normal for civilians can be a challenge. The team even entertains my silly questions about what the 'uniform' is to meet customers.”This small detail speaks volumes, highlighting the importance of supportive colleagues that provide guidance and resources for success without judgment. “You do have to pay attention and be deliberate about integrating,” Angel advises. “Zscaler has made this experience great.”Growth Anchored by Community: The Power of Vets@ZAngel’s career growth at Zscaler began when he joined the engineering team where he was exposed to the forefront of innovation. “It opened my eyes to the talent that exists in this space,” he explains. “I am learning the Zscaler platform extensively. This is the future of cybersecurity.”But the most impactful part of his growth wasn't just technical; it was human. This supportive network is anchored by Vets@Zscaler, our Employee Resource Group (ERG) dedicated to supporting and empowering our veteran community. For Angel, this group wasn't just a resource; it was a cornerstone of his transition, providing mentorship and a built-in community from day one.He was encouraged to set up meetings across the organization to learn what others did. “I set up over 100 meetings, and without hesitation, they all provided me with guidance,” he recalls. It’s this formal commitment to connection, championed by groups like Vets@Z, that led Angel to his most powerful realization: “I believe in the technology, but the team is what makes this organization great.”Angel’s Advice to Transitioning Service MembersWhen asked what advice he would give to other veterans considering a career in tech, Angel’s response is enthusiastic and clear.“Join the team!” he says. “If you’re looking for a great team and want to be on the cutting edge of cybersecurity, this is the place to be. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—everyone on this team has been so accommodating.”His final message is one of service, extending a hand to those who will follow in his footsteps.“If you don’t know where to start, reach out to me anytime. I am always here for a veteran.”

Tiffany Shyuan, Revenue Manager in Finance, joined Zscaler five years ago eager to grow professionally and make an impact. From her first day, Tiffany experienced Zscaler’s strong commitment to the wellbeing of its employees. In 2024, she transitioned into her most fulfilling role yet–new mother to baby Benson. After returning from maternity leave, Tiffany found herself balancing the challenges of being a new parent. For Tiffany, one particular initiative stood out: the “U.S. Ramp Back Benefit” for new moms which allowed her to thrive both as a mother and career professional.Ramp Back Benefit Allows FlexibilityAfter welcoming Benson into the world, Tiffany returned to work, feeling supported every step of the way. Zscaler’s “Ramp Back Benefit” allowed her to work a part-time schedule for full pay during her first month back. This thoughtful program helped Tiffany ease back into a fulltime workweek while juggling the responsibilities of her new “mom” title. She explains, “This benefit empowered me to get reaccustomed to my role as a working mom. It’s a level of care that truly makes you grateful to be here.”Flexibility is also part of our culture. Zscaler’s hybrid work environment also proved invaluable as she continued to navigate her dual responsibilities. With open communication and support from her team, the transition back into the workplace was more manageable. “Zscaler’s flexibility gives people confidence to handle both jobs with grace,” Tiffany shares. “What’s most important is accountability for your work.”Support for Working ParentsAs Tiffany reflects on her journey, she emphasizes how Zscaler’s adaptability and open communication foster success for working parents. She encourages others entering new roles while managing family responsibilities to never shy away from expressing their needs: “Communication is key. If you don’t speak up, no one will know. Flexibility is possible and at Zscaler, good talent is always valued.”Tiffany’s story is more than one of career success—it’s a testament to Zscaler’s commitment to supporting its employees at every stage of their personal and professional journeys. For Tiffany, Zscaler is a place where teamwork, innovation, and personal fulfillment harmoniously intersect and dovetail seamlessly.
Meet Mercilie Chiarelli and learn about her onboarding journey at Zscaler as a Sales Account Executive. How did the Sales Onboarding (Bootcamp) program prepare you for your role?Bootcamp equipped me with invaluable insights and practical skills essential for excelling in my role. The opportunity to receive direct training from our CEO through Jay's Masterclass was a truly unique and transformative experience. Hearing directly from the company's visionary leader provided a deeper understanding of our goals and instilled confidence in how I approach customer interactions.Furthermore, the hands-on exercise of applying the training to a real-life customer situation was exceptionally beneficial. It allowed me to translate theoretical knowledge into actionable results, bridging the gap between learning and execution. What was the most valuable insight or skill you took away from this experience? The most valuable insight I gained is the importance of operating with both urgency and authenticity, especially given the high-growth environment Zscaler is in. At a company that is scaling aggressively, it’s essential to avoid getting caught up in the pursuit of perfection, as that often leads to delays. Instead, the focus should be on taking action and engaging directly with customers in a genuine way. Building trusted relationships through consistency will naturally drive results. Can you describe a memorable moment with teammates during Bootcamp? One of the most memorable moments was hearing from Zscaler’s Sales Representative of the Year. His session stood out because of his authenticity and transparency. Rather than focusing solely on metrics, he shared a candid perspective on his journey—including the challenges, mistakes, and lessons learned. It reinforced the importance of being genuine, embracing continuous learning, and staying resilient—qualities that are essential to thriving in this environment. What excites you about developing your career further at Zscaler? What excites me most is the opportunity to grow within a company that fosters both high performance and alignment to our values. I’ve been consistently impressed by the caliber of talent here—individuals who are not only highly intelligent but also genuinely committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for our customers. Being surrounded by driven, hardworking, and passionate teammates challenges me to bring my best self to work every day and make an impact. What advice would you give to someone considering joining Zscaler’s sales team?Zscaler is in an exciting phase of rapid growth, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact is unparalleled. My advice is to come in with the mindset of being proactive, adaptable, and ready to operate with urgency. The pace is fast, and expectations are high, but it’s equally rewarding for those who are driven. This is a place where hard work, authenticity, and a genuine focus on helping customers succeed are recognized and rewarded.

Continuous learning and collaboration are at the core of our internship program. Hear from our Head of Talent Engagement, Jeremy Chou, on how we empower interns to grow and make a real impact. As we transition from summer to fall, you can feel a different kind of energy buzzing through our virtual calls and office halls. It's a mix of excitement, a little sadness, and a whole lot of pride. We recently said goodbye to our summer interns and I want to take time to reflect on the incredible journey we just shared.Real Work, Real ImpactWhen we bring interns to Zscaler, the goal isn't just to teach; it's to have them contribute from day one. Our interns jump straight into business-critical projects, diving headfirst into the challenges at the core of our mission. This summer, we watched interns ship code that is now part of the Zscaler platform, protecting real customers. We saw them develop marketing analytics that will shape our future campaigns. They weren't just learning about the business—they were actively helping to build the future of cybersecurity. For a student, the opportunity to see your work have that kind of tangible impact is the ultimate launchpad for a career.Growth Is a Two-Way StreetWe talk a lot about what interns learn from us. They’re paired with dedicated mentors, they get exposure to leaders, and they build skills that will last a lifetime. But here’s the secret that makes our program so special: we learn just as much from them. Our interns arrived with a powerful curiosity that shook up our routines. They challenged our assumptions by asking, "Have we ever thought about doing it this way?" They introduced new ideas from their coursework, pushing seasoned colleagues to see problems through a fresh lens. There’s nothing more energizing than seeing a senior engineer and an intern huddled together, brainstorming on a whiteboard, both completely absorbed in solving a problem. That’s where the magic happens. It’s a powerful reminder that growth isn’t a one-way street, and a great idea can come from anyone, whether you’ve been here for a decade or just a few weeks. What’s Next?As we say goodbye to this year’s intern cohort, we’re celebrating the connections we've made and the new perspectives they’ve brought to our teams. They leave with new skills and a network, but they also leave Zscaler a smarter, more innovative company. To all the students looking to start their careers with purpose: we’re building a place where you won’t just learn, you’ll contribute. And we can't wait to learn from you, too.Interested in shaping the future of cybersecurity?
For over a decade, Rob has been a driving force for Zscaler in the Northeast U.S. As a key leader, he has been instrumental in developing his territory, building a consistent pipeline, and recruiting and developing channel partners to create a world-class go-to-market strategy that defines our success in the region today. The Power of PartnershipIn enterprise sales, the partnership between an Account Executive and a Sales Engineer is critical. Rob’s 17-year collaboration with Consulting Sales Engineer, Mike Ruiz, is a prime illustration of this principle–a strategic force that embodies our ONEteam culture and has been instrumental in securing major accounts. But their partnership goes beyond just strategy; it’s built on a shared passion for Zscaler’s mission. Early in their tenure, they secured the very first “ZSCALER” license plates in New York and Connecticut! In a tradition that continues to this date, Rob gives away Zscaler swag to any Zscaler representatives who spot his car throughout New England.A Culture That InspiresFor Rob, his belief in Zscaler's mission is so profound that it inspired his own family. His passion for the company’s mission and culture was so evident that his oldest son, Robby, joined Zscaler's very first intern class. Several years later, his youngest son, Scott, also joined Zscaler, launching his own career journey as a Sales Development Rep. in our Boston office. When your passion for a company's culture inspires your own children to want to be a part of it, it speaks volumes. My journey at Zscaler has been amazing and life-changing in so many ways. It’s a wonderful community and culture.A Decade of ImpactFrom building go-to-market strategies and developing channel partners to mentoring the next generation, Rob's influence has left its mark. My advice to anyone exploring a career in sales is to find a product you can be passionate about. At Zscaler, you’re not just selling a solution; you’re selling a platform that fundamentally shifts how businesses operate securely. The conversations will change and that's when you build trusting authentic relationships making for a successful and rewarding career.Rob's journey from pioneering a territory to mentoring the next generation is a testament to the long-term career growth possible at Zscaler.
Today, we’re celebrating the parents and caregivers at Zscaler who masterfully juggle project deadlines and packed lunches, team meetings and bedtime stories. Creating a culture of flexibility, trust, and support is core to who we are. But don't just take our word for it. We asked some of our incredible working parents to share what this support means to them. To all the working parents at Zscaler and beyond: we appreciate you, and we’re proud to foster a culture that enables you to thrive.Mrigank Singh, Product Management - "The unwavering trust Zscaler places in me is what makes our flexible culture so transformative. It empowers my wife and me to share parenting duties and be present for our children and creates a truly fulfilling career experience that I'm grateful for every day."Miranda Dali, Revenue Enablement - "Starting at Zscaler when my daughter, Olive, was just four months old was daunting, but the culture of support was immediate. That trust was never more apparent than when she underwent two surgeries, and my team encouraged me to fully unplug to be with her. This unwavering support from both my team and leadership has empowered me to grow into new roles, all while being the mom I strive to be."Katharina Eitel, Marketing - "Becoming a mom has sharpened my abilities to lead with empathy, build collaborative connections, and remain focused on purposeful goals. Whether I’m hosting major Zscaler events or navigating the joys and challenges of parenthood, I’m driven to connect, grow, and create solutions that truly matter—both at work and at home."Alexander Huhn, Sales Engineering - "The support I received from my Zscaler team during a difficult family situation was incredible, giving me the space to focus on what mattered most. Now that things have stabilized, that same culture of trust allows me to manage my own schedule, balancing family commitments with my professional responsibilities."Maggie Minogue, IT - "I'm incredibly grateful to my manager, Harps Rai, who has championed my journey as a working parent from day one. As an exemplary leader and advocate for working mothers, she has given me the freedom to thrive both at home and at work. It’s empowering to be part of a company where I know I can grow my career without compromising my family."Laura Flood, People & Culture - "Leadership has consistently offered flexibility, hybrid work, and empathy for the occasional chaos behind my Zoom background. The generous paid maternity leave and ramp-back program I used with my third child were invaluable. This culture allows me to maximize my time in the office for connection and focus, so I can be fully present for my family at home."Autumn Policicchio, Revenue Enablement - "I am grateful to work for a company that allows flexibility at work because it allows me to not only do meaningful and impactful work, but also show up fully for the people who matter most. Whether it is taking my 91 year-old grandma to a doctor's appointment or celebrating one of my five kids' successes, I know I can be and will be present for life's important moments."Yana Petrova, Sales Engineering - "The secret to success isn't doing it all alone—it's building the right team. Talk, align, and plan together. It’s a journey, not a destination, and having a community to share it with makes all the difference."Caitlyn Mason, People & Culture - "Through Zscaler's support for new mothers, including generous maternity leave, the Ramp Back Program, which allowed me to work part-time during my first month back, I was able to ease into the new normal of balancing work and motherhood. These initiatives have empowered me to find a healthy work-life balance, enabling me to make a meaningful impact both professionally and in my daughter's life."

Meet Morgan G., one of our 2025 People & Culture Interns! Morgan is pursuing a Master of Arts in Communication at the University of Arkansas. When she’s not diving into communication strategies, she enjoys trying new coffee shops, hiking, and traveling. As a graduate student, my goal for an internship isn't just to contribute to projects, but to understand the underlying rhythm of a company’s culture—the pulse that dictates how ideas become reality. In my 12 weeks at Zscaler, I didn’t just observe this rhythm; I helped create it. I learned how our values aren't just posters on a wall, but the very beat that powers how meaningful work gets done.At Zscaler, I quickly learned that Teamwork is the natural result of radical Ownership. My projects, even as an intern, weren’t siloed assignments. I was tasked with helping our internal communications team streamline its workflow. Instead of just being a user, I took the lead in driving our adoption of Asana. I created a centralized "Best Practices" guide for our team and designed a new intake form to codify our processes, ensuring our team could focus more on collaboration and less on navigating bureaucracy.I also saw firsthand how this culture translates Passion into Innovation. Here, challenges are seen as opportunities. Through conversations across teams, a common theme emerged: a need for more centralized employee resources and clearer internal career paths. The response wasn't to accept the status quo; it was to find a solution. I had the opportunity to partner with leads in Learning & Development and Talent Acquisition to brainstorm and draft formal proposals for new solutions, like a unified Career Development Hub and a Personalized Mobility Tool. It was a powerful lesson in how a culture of innovation doesn't just solve existing problems—it proactively builds a better experience for its people. What unites everything at Zscaler is a clear sense of purpose, driven by Customer Obsession. I got to see this value in action when I partnered with the Learning & Development team to help facilitate a workshop on communication styles, an opportunity where I could apply my passion for teaching to help my peers collaborate more effectively, long-term. My summer at Zscaler has been more than an internship; it’s been a powerful lesson in how a culture built on trust, purpose, and momentum operates. From creating content for social media and managing a company-wide platform implementation to facilitating workshops and shaping strategic proposals, the opportunity to contribute meaningfully from day one has been incredibly formative. It’s an experience that has given me a new framework for what a high-impact culture looks like, and I know picking Zscaler as the company to intern at was the right decision.

What comes to mind when you think of a tech internship? For many, it’s a mix of learning, shadowing experts, and contributing to projects. It’s a valuable experience, but what if we took it to the next level? What if, from day one, interns were empowered to build, solve, and innovate on ideas waiting to take flight? This past summer we didn’t just ask “what if?” We empowered our 30 Skybound interns in India to start building and innovating.Innovation Born from an IdeathonThe projects our Skybound interns are tackling aren’t just training exercises. Their work was rooted in Zscaler’s Ideathon, a global initiative inviting Zscaler engineers to submit their most innovative concepts. From tools to help identify unusual patterns in data that may indicate system faults, performance issues, or security breaches to a self-service query generation pipeline that automates GraphQL API endpoint creation, our interns are coming up with solutions that are immediately applicable. By entrusting the next generation of brilliant minds with these vital projects, we’re infusing our development process with fresh perspectives and bold thinking, helping move ideas from concept to impact. A Two-Way Street of InnovationSkybound delivers a transformative journey for everyone involved. For our interns, the program bridges the gap between theory and reality. They dive headfirst into solving business-critical challenges. They aren't just watching innovation happen; they are the innovators–getting to shape solutions, challenge assumptions, and see their work contribute directly to Zscaler’s mission. For Zscaler, the benefits are just as profound. We’re not only developing future leaders but also accelerating our own innovation cycle. Hear from Our InnovatorsBut don’t just take our word for it. We asked our interns about their experiences, and here’s what they shared:On Driving Innovation & Customer Impact"My favorite part of Zscaler's culture is its relentless drive for innovation, which is directly fueled by a deep sense of customer obsession. This creates an environment where employees are empowered to solve real-world security challenges that have a significant and immediate impact."— R Rohan K. "Zscaler and Skybound truly distinguish themselves because interns are entrusted with working on real, production-level projects. This direct contribution means our work directly impacts the company's progress and success."— Sakshi S.On Our Culture of Collaboration & Teamwork"My favorite part of the culture is the mutual respect and openness. Everyone is approachable, making collaboration smooth and enabling interns to feel like a valued part of the team."— Sangala K. "The culture is too good, the team is supportive, approachable, and so welcoming. The team building events and outings were really fun times we had together."— Nikita V. On Growth & Mentorship"Zscaler's Skybound program stands out by being a highly structured career accelerator... I genuinely enjoyed the collaborative culture and the mentorship I received. Learning from experts who are so passionate in their fields was incredibly inspiring and accelerated my own technical as well as professional growth immensely."— Nimish B. "One of my favorite aspects was interacting with experienced mentors and gaining invaluable insights into how to approach system architecture. Their guidance helped me understand the thought process required to craft impactful and scalable solutions."— Atharv K.The Future is BrightThe success of Skybound is a testament to what’s possible when you combine brilliant ideas with passionate, emerging talent. A huge thank you to our India interns for their remarkable work, and to the mentors who guided them. We can’t wait to see what the next generation of innovators will dream, build and achieve.

At Zscaler, we believe that inclusion is at the heart of innovation, creativity, and progress. This Pride Month, we focus on the power of unity: How shared experiences and solidarity within the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies can inspire change and growth while fostering safe spaces for all.Pride with Purpose: Change Through CelebrationThe Pride movement, rooted in resilience and bravery, has come a long way since the Stonewall Riots in 1969. These moments in history remind us of the courage and determination it has taken to advocate for equity, inclusion, and representation. While Pride Month inspires vibrant celebrations, it’s also a reminder to recommit to creating spaces where everyone feels valued for who they are.At Zscaler, this commitment is reflected in our Pride@Z Employee Resource Group (ERG) –a space that brings LGBTQIA+ employees and allies together to foster dialogue, provide support, and advance impactful programs year-round. As part of Pride Month, our HQ is buzzing with activities designed to educate, amplify employee voices, and engage with the broader community. We’re proud to celebrate Pride Month in tangible ways that bring people together, uplift LGBTQIA+ talent, and support local businesses. Here are just a few of the activities our employees are doing during Pride Month:Pride Artisan Market and Swag GiveawayWe welcomed local LGBTQIA+-owned businesses for our Pride Artisan Market, showcasing homemade products that employees could take home. Employees also received a special Zscaler tote bag to carry their items, creating a tangible connection to supporting LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurship.Pride Month Office LunchEmployees came together for lunch featuring delicious food options from LGBTQIA+-owned Fresh Catch Poke and Melina’s Place. Sharing a meal is the perfect way to reflect on unity and inclusion within our community.Making an Impact At Zscaler, we believe that Pride Month is not just a time to celebrate but also to take meaningful actions that benefit the community. One way we are doing this is through our Zscaler Employees Serving Together (ZEST) volunteer program, which empowers employees to give back while fostering the values of community and connection. Through the month of June, employees are invited to pick up and create Career Preparation Kits designed to support local LGBTQIA+ youth by equipping them with tools for their career. Vaughn Grigsby, Sr. Director, People Business Partner, shares: “It is great that our company has events that not only celebrate and highlight our diverse workforce during our affinity month celebrations, it brings it to a new level by incorporating actions that we can quickly and easily undertake that have an impact on our entire community. The Career Preparation Kits were an example of a way employees can thoughtfully give back through sharing wisdom and knowledge they gained from their own career journey and help out younger people as they begin theirs.”Staying Connected Year-RoundAt Zscaler, we believe Pride isn’t limited to one month–it’s a lens through which we shape our culture year-round. We want every employee to feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute fully. Whether through our ERGs, onsite events, or programs like ZEST, we strive to embed fairness and access at every level of the organization.Pride Month is a time to reflect and celebrate, but it’s also a time to consider how we can make our culture even more welcoming and empowering. Through unity in community, we unlock the potential to innovate, thrive, and build an inclusive future.Let’s keep building a brighter, more inclusive future–together.

On March 13, Zscaler partnered with The King’s Trust to host a Brilliant Breakfast in celebration of International Women’s Day. Part of the Trust’s 'Change a Girl’s Life’ campaign, this inspiring event brought together Zscaler business leaders, partners and customers to raise funds and awareness, with the goal of empowering the next generation of young women in their career aspirations. The economic challenges of the past few years have left many young women feeling uncertain about their future. In fact, 45 percent of young women report feeling hopeless according to a survey from the King’s Trust, compared to just 36 percent of young men. This sense of uncertainty is compounded by a lack of confidence, which is something more young women than men cite as a barrier to achieving their career goals. Additionally, mental health challenges and the rising cost of living are also contributing to holding young women back. When combined, these findings highlight the pressing need for change and support to help young women get started in their careers. The Power of Community and MentorshipIt was with real pleasure that I stepped up on behalf of Zscaler to host the Brilliant Breakfast earlier this week at Claridge’s in London. Our goal was to raise funds to help young women gain the skills, confidence, and job opportunities they need to succeed – whether through increased engagement with potential employers or by equipping them with the necessary skills to start their own businesses. Since its inception in 2020, the Change a Girl’s Life campaign has raised over £2.2 million, supporting more than 2,000 young women on their journey towards a brighter future. At Zscaler, we believe in the importance of fostering an inclusive and nurturing working environment for women. Our long-standing commitment to supporting females in the tech industry extends beyond this event, but the Brilliant Breakfast provided a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in both donations and awareness. As part of my host duties for the morning, I was also asked to present a motivational keynote. Leaning into my experience as a mentor and female leader in the tech space, I was more than happy to point out the importance of mentorship and guidance from a role model. The Change a Girl’s Life campaign exists to ensure that young women’s potential isn’t limited by their environment or the education level of their parents. It’s about unlocking their true potential by providing them with access to the right education, motivation, and guidance. When a girl sees role models breaking barriers in their industries, she can start to believe in her own power to make a difference. I was honoured to act as a role model that morning, and to share my insights about not aiming for a specific title, but giving yourself the freedom to choose your own path and become self-sustaining. My goal has always been to inspire and empower every woman to reach her potential, so that fitted perfectly with the aim of the Brilliant Breakfast. In turn, I was personally inspired by the participation of The King’s Trust ambassador Grace Graham. Despite growing up in difficult family circumstances and facing significant personal challenges, Grace has been able to turn her life around and build a successful business due to the skills and knowledge she gained through the program. Empowered by the support she received from the Trust, she not only changed her own future, but has also become a powerful role model for others, demonstrating that anyone can overcome adversity and achieve their dreams in the right environment. Making an Impact: Fundraising for the FutureThe Brilliant Breakfast is more than just a one-day event – it’s a catalyst for lasting change. As part of our ongoing support, Zscaler has donated $25,000 to the Change a Girl’s Life campaign. This contribution will help 20 young women across the UK to access training courses, explore job opportunities, and receive coaching through practice interviews – all valuable resources to help them advance their careers in tech. We also hope that by participating, Zscaler’s customers and partners will have felt inspired to pick up the mantle of empowering young women, and to contribute themselves, amplifying the impact of the Trust’s efforts and helping even more young women build successful futures. For those interested in getting involved in The King’s Trust initiative, learn more about how to host your own Brilliant Breakfast or donate here. Together, we can shape a future where every young woman has the opportunity to thrive.

Tell us a little about your journey to working for Zscaler:I started here as a sourcing recruiter and over the past 3 years, I have moved onto recruiting. I now head up recruitment for 3 organizations (Public Sector - Jose Padin, Channel Engineering - John Bullitt, and Pre-Sales Engineering - Tim Nagy). What has been most impactful during your career journey? I believe that the key takeaway is that I am transforming lives for the long term. The connections I have built with my clients (hiring managers and candidates) have genuinely had the most significant impact on me.Candidate Client: In pre-sales recruiting you learn about the skills and achievements of who you are hiring, how they got where they are today, and where they want to go from here…it is about being apart of their journey and helping them with their success of landing their dream role at Zscaler.Hiring Manager Client: It is truly about building the trusted advisor relationship and being in lock step with your partner. Knowing that my role here at Zscaler is to alleviate pain points that my hiring manager is feeling. What about your work at Zscaler gets you excited to wake up everyday? I love my job! I love helping people and making an impact to the hypergrowth here at Zscaler. I drive my role in pre-sales engineering with passion, and innovation…if it does not work fix it! I try to put myself in the shoes of the candidate pacing the floor waiting for a call back, the hiring manager losing someone that was not only on the team, but probably a friend. It is about being there, being empathic and having a human connection.Tell us about the importance of connecting to your sense of purpose - what inspires you?Humans inspire me; people can be a profound source of inspiration! As a recruiter you just have to ask, and people want to share their journey; It can be the hiring manager, it can be the candidate…but they all have a story, it is my job to listen, help, lift up and drive. What’s the one experience that helped you grow the most?Learning how to be a better teammate!
Meet Emma Hall, Sr. Director, Global CXO ExperienceTell us a little about what your day-to-day looks like running the CXO Programs. One of my favorite aspects of my role is that no two days are alike. Whether I'm connecting deeply with customer CXOs to understand their initiatives and challenges, or collaborating with cross-functional teams to fine-tune how our CXO programs can deliver customized content at scale across the globe, each day brings a new and engaging challenge. What about your work at Zscaler gets you excited to wake up every day?The chance to shape and influence discussions at the highest levels of IT and security leadership is incredibly motivating. Knowing that our work not only drives Zscaler's growth, but also significantly impacts business outcomes for the customer CXOs we support in navigating the complexities of secure transformation, keeps me energized. One of the best parts of in-person executive experiences is that you can see the tangible impact our programs have on these customers.Tell us about the importance of connecting to your sense of purpose—what inspires you?My sense of purpose is deeply rooted in creating environments where leaders can connect, learn, and grow together. I'm inspired by the power of collaboration and the potential it holds for innovation and progress. We facilitate conversations that challenge the status quo and drive industry-wide learning and advancement. I'm passionate about learning—whether from my team, my friends, or my surroundings—and providing this opportunity for peer learning among our CXO customers is a privilege. What is one piece of advice you have for others to help build and strengthen an inclusive culture?Inclusivity starts with active listening and empathy. My advice is to prioritize understanding others before seeking to be understood. I tend to be known as a quiet leader, listening first, rather than barking orders down the chain. This is because I truly believe the best ideas—and in turn, the best business outcomes—stem from encouraging diverse voices to be heard. By fostering a culture of open dialogue and mutual respect, we can build an environment that drives creativity and innovation. If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why?I would choose my two children, aged 7 and 3. They've taught me to see the world anew through their eyes—full of curiosity, magic, and endless possibilities. Their ability to approach life with unfiltered creativity inspires me to tackle every puzzle, big or small, with curiosity and an open mind. What is a quote you live by?I always remind myself of Ian Maclaren's quote "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." We never know everything that is going on in someone else's life, so approaching colleagues and customers with kindness and empathy is the best way to build true relationships rather than just hold transactional interactions. This philosophy applies to everyone I interact with, from the executives at Fortune 500 companies to new team members just starting their journey.

As a proud Latino born and raised in Brazil, I’m passionate about supporting and empowering the Latino and Hispanic communities at Zscaler. I joined Zscaler in October 2023 as Chief AI Officer, and earlier this summer I was honored to be named the Executive Sponsor for Sabor, Zscaler’s Latino and Hispanic ERG. This role holds even more significance as we kick off this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM).Under the “Pioneers of Change” theme, the goal of HHM is to highlight the Latino and Hispanic communities’ spirit of unity, innovation, and resilience. My personal story resonates deeply with this theme, and I welcome you to read about my story so far and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I was born in Niteroi, Brazil, where my parents instilled in me the importance of education, thought, and resilience from a young age. My family consisted of several pioneers – my maternal grandfather was the chief of security for the Brazilian president in the 1920s, my mother was one of the first (if not the first) female district attorney for the state of Minas Gerais, and my father was a skilled pilot in charge of transporting Brazilian government officials. My mother told me to always prioritize learning and studying, because “what’s in your mind can never be taken from you.” This lesson has always stuck with me and has been a prevalent principle throughout my life and career. I graduated with a Master's in Computer Science and moved to America to pursue a PhD in Electronic Design Automation at Stanford University. This degree enabled me to help advance microelectronics to Brazil, where I later became a professor in Computer Architecture, Entrepreneurship and Software Engineering at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), one of the top CS programs in Brazil. I’m proud to have had a part in making technology more accessible in the southern hemisphere, and helping students ignite their passions to help them start their own businesses.Over the years, I alternated between the United States and Brazil, forming numerous companies to establish and strengthen engineering departments globally. I worked with some of my former students to launch a startup that was acquired by Jasper Design Automation, which later sold to Cadence Design Systems which maintains a significant presence in Belo Horizonte. I founded another company there before returning to the United States for leadership positions at Synopsys, Google, and Palo Alto Networks. After a decade of leadership in deep learning, AI, and cybersecurity, I proudly joined Zscaler last year as Chief AI Officer to oversee AI and Generative AI applications and develop our AI strategy.I feel a great sense of accomplishment in being able to contribute to a better world through cybersecurity, where we help protect society in an increasingly complex world. My values helped get me where I am today, and I am extremely proud of where I came from. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to leave you with a few key learnings that helped shape me into the pioneer I am: Do not be afraid of challenges. Your career will make turns throughout your life. The market is always changing, and you should embrace change.By making mistakes, we become a better person and professional. I highlighted many of the successes in my career, but I have had my share of failures, and with each failure, I learned something new.Diversity is king. I live with myself 24 hours a day. If I only hire people who are similar to me and agree with me, I won’t increase my knowledge. Hiring people from numerous locations and backgrounds helps us to better understand the specific needs of our global customer base.Do not forget where you came from, and what you have done. Be proud of what makes you unique.

Meet Barbara SagrilloField Marketing Manager, ItalyQ: How did you choose to go into Marketing? A: I entered the marketing field out of courage, despite not having studied it formally. The dynamic nature of marketing means that no two days are the same. This keeps me engaged and motivated, as I am constantly faced with new challenges and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Q: How did you find yourself at Zscaler? A: I thoroughly enjoy working at Zscaler because it provides me with a sense of freedom, respect, and a peaceful work environment. Q: What event, advice or experience impacted you the most? A: I have not been impacted by any specific event, but I choose to follow my needs, aspirations, and ambitions without allowing setbacks to discourage me. If something discourages me, I always strive to find a way and a solution to lift myself up. Q: If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why? A: If I could choose one person who has been influential in my life, it would be my grandmothers. Both of them have had a significant impact on me. One of my grandmothers, who lived in a big city, had a strong sense of duty towards work and education. The other, who lived in the mountains, shared the same sense of duty but also had immense love for her community, friends, home, and family. Both of them were avid animal lovers and remarkably progressive, considering they lived through the Second World War. Q: What is a quote you live by? A: My motto is "live and let live."
Meet Alice EmersonZscaler Regional Sales Director 1. What's the one experience that helped you grow the most?Becoming a mom (Ella, 4 yrs, Carter, 2 yrs, Brooke, 5 mos) helped me grow both professionally and, of course, personally. Aside from the obvious need to improve my multitasking abilities (absolutely required with three young children), I learned the importance of setting boundaries, being purposeful with my time, having a renewed dedication to learning, and operating with higher resilience under pressure. Along with all of the changes that come with motherhood, I felt more empowered to embrace new challenges/change in my professional career. I left a successful 7.5 years with ADP to join Zscaler only 6 months after having our first child and, after having our second child, was promoted into ZS leadership. Being a working mom isn't easy and has also come with its own failures, but the growth that came as a result is invaluable.2. If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?Control the controllables in life, but don't be afraid to take a different path if you don't see fulfillment in something that you can't control. I remember the feeling of stress and chaos that I felt early in my career when pressure mounted and I wish I could have applied that sooner. I ended up making significant changes to my personal and professional life along the way and, while uncomfortable in the moment, had outcomes that drove me forward.3. What has been most impactful during your career journey?Having incredible mentors. Surrounding myself with really smart people in my career that can provide a different perspective, alternative ideas to how to solve problems, connect me with other really smart people, push me out of my comfort zone and truly care about my success has been incredibly impactful (and appreciated!). I also enjoy the opportunity to be a mentor to others and will learn so much from those relationships too. 4. How does wellbeing fit into your notion of success?First off, I believe that you do need to put your own oxygen mask on before attempting to help others. While I've continuously prioritized my mental health, I did fall victim to deprioritizing my physical health upon becoming a mother. However, after having my third child, I changed my approach and hired a personal trainer that specializes in athletes and moms. The healthy habit of working out purposefully twice a week have also compounded other positive habits (healthier eating, more engaged playing with the kids, drinking more water & less red wine). I believe that I can only be my best self and maximize success if I prioritize wellbeing. 5. If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why?My husband, David. He's an incredible father to our children, he supports (and pushes) my personal and professional growth, and is my partner in life. He's taught me (and continues to teach me) the value in taking calculated risks, keeping an open mind, problem solving, and being action-oriented. Professionally, he also provided me with the opportunity to learn secondhand from his journey in entrepreneurship. Early in our relationship, he left his corporate advertising job to create his own business and, although that business didn't take off, he took the opportunity to learn from the failure and applied those lessons to ultimately create a successful business (which he recently sold). 6. What is a quote you live by?"The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you're about to succeed"

As those of you who read my previous blog will know, Zscaler is proud to be supporting Steve Gibbins’ Tour 21 fund raising efforts for Cure Leukaemia, a blood cancer charity that gives patients access to new and potentially life-saving treatments by facilitating clinical trials. Beyond monetary donations, we were joined by Steve at our event in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park velodrome in London to learn more about his journey and the extraordinary world of cycling the Tour de France route. It was a fantastic, engaging and inspiring day for all attendees, so I thought I’d share a few highlights in case you missed it.Kicking off proceedings, Steve opened the breakfast session by sharing his motivation for raising money for Cure Leukaemia, and explaining how he’s preparing to take on this year’s Tour 21:“Cycling runs in the family – my father was a dedicated cyclist who raised funds for charities in Yorkshire and I’m grateful that I’m getting to do something that I love whilst raising money for an important cause. I was inspired by Rob Wynn, Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, who tackled Tour 21 last year in support of Cure Leukaemia and gave me the motivation to take on the challenge myself. It's a daunting challenge for us riders, both physically and mentally. Waking up at 5:30am for training isn't easy, but the support has been incredible. We've formed strong bonds within the Tour 21 team, united in our commitment to reach the finish line and hit our fundraising goal. Our recent practice ride in Mallorca was a great opportunity to bond. Some team members have been truly inspiring, showcasing unwavering determination despite varying cycling abilities. We then heard from endurance and adventure cyclist, Chris Hall, who takes on a number of cycling challenges every year to raise awareness about mental health. Having struggled with his own mental health throughout his life, Chris described cycling as his “unintended outlet,” driving him deeper into the sport. One of the things he noted that he enjoys most about cycling is that “all your senses are really engaged in it.” After getting on his bike in 2014, he has taken part in international challenges such as the Grand Fondo in Australia, the Atlas Mountains Race in Morocco, the Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan, and Badlands in Spain – to name a few! Listening to Chris's experiences inspired all of us in the room to push our own cycling and physical limits further…And it wasn’t long until we had the opportunity to do just that! During the second half of the day, all event attendees and Zscaler staff hopped on their bikes for a track cycling session around the velodrome. It was a brilliant moment to bond as a team in such an iconic venue from the Olympics. Once we got our bearings, I would be lying though if I said things didn’t start getting competitive! We could experience a bit of the flavour of the cycling sport in general as a team challenge and the Tour de France spirit in particular in a field of cyclists that hardly knew each other when the day started. While we might be off our bikes for now, our support for Steve continues as we rally behind his fundraising goal. Every donation makes a difference and if his next adventure has inspired you, I encourage you to support Steve by donating on his Just Giving page:https://www.justgiving.com/page/tour21-1709116264883 We wish Steve all the best with his training in the run up to Tour 21, and managing to successfully ride 3500 km while climbing more than 52,000 altitude metres in the French and Italian Alps as well as the Pyrenees in June. Good luck!

Every year, 176 cyclists and millions of spectators descend on France for one of the most gruelling sporting events in the world, le Tour de France. A race steeped in history, and those who adorn the streets – and the billions of spectators who tune in on TV – do their utmost to empathise with the pain and suffering of the professionals as they ascend climbs such as Alpe d’Huez and Mont Ventoux. Few people truly understand the grit, determination, and fitness needed to complete the race. However, the team at Tour 21 are all too familiar with the demanding requirements of le Tour. Every year, one week ahead of the official race, a team of 15 amateur cyclists take to the tarmac and ride the full Tour de France route, and all in the name of a good cause. We’re very excited to share that Zscaler will be supporting Steve Gibbins’ Tour 21 Fundraiser for Cure Leukaemia, a blood cancer charity providing patients with access to new and potentially lifesaving treatments by facilitating clinical trials. While great progress is being made, Cure Leukaemia’s work remains vital for so many people. In fact, according to Cancer Research UK:There are almost 10,000 new cases of leukaemia each year 4,830 people died from leukaemia between 2017 – 201941% of people survive leukaemia for 10 or more years12% of leukaemia cases are preventableAlongside being an enthusiastic amateur cyclist, Steve is the Head of Networks at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) responsible for the cloud-infrastructure transformation of the organisation, a longstanding client of Zscaler and valued customer since 2017. As Steve embarks on the daunting Tour 21 challenge alongside 15 other amateur cyclists, covering an astounding 3500 km in just 21 days from Florence to Nice, his mission to raise £1 million for Cure Leukaemia is nothing short of inspirational.“Seeing and understanding the incredible work that Cure Leukaemia is doing through the Trial Acceleration Programme, and the incredible progress that has been achieved so far by them, is truly inspirational. However, there is still a way to go before this terrible disease is completely beaten, which is why raising this money is so incredibly important. Zscaler’s support has been truly outstanding and puts fuel in my tank on those tough training days, knowing that this amazing organisation is behind me all the way”, Steve Gibbins adds.At Zscaler, we’re proud to support one of JLR’s champions as he pedals towards his ambitious fundraising goal, embodying the spirit of perseverance, community, and hope. Hence we have donated £10,000 already, which has contributed to half of Steve’s fund raising target – but our support doesn’t end there. To bolster our backing, we rallied our London-based team together for a group spin class last week. With over 20 colleagues and Steve himself in attendance, the collective effort provided a huge source of motivation and inspiration as well as showing great team spirit for the cause. Considering how challenging the spin class was for us, we commend Steve as riding 3500 km and climbing more than 52,000 altitude metres in the French and Italian Alps as well as the Pyrenees seems unfathomable!Roxy Uddin, proud participant of the spin class comments: “Having worked alongside Steve Gibbins and his cloud transformation journey for JLR for two years now, I'm so proud that Zscaler are able to support Steve as he takes on this huge challenge. The spin class itself was great fun (and tougher than expected!) and really brought the whole Zscaler team together to focus on this bigger fundraising task.On April 23rd, we take the team spirit and fundraising activities to the next level. We’re coming together with JLR at the Velodrome in London, to dive deeper into the Tour 21 feeling, telling you more about Steve's fundraising journey with insights from guest speakers representing charities raising awareness about leukaemia and Tour 21 itself. But that’s not all… we’ll be hopping on our bikes for an exciting track cycling session afterwards. We're excited to have so many people join us to help Steve to fundraise and spread the word for Cure Leukaemia. You still have time to sign up for our Velodrome Track Day, and you can check out the complete schedule at the link below. We hope to see you there!

An organization's success comes down to its people, and fostering diversity in the workforce amplifies a business's ability to navigate complex challenges. Women bring unique skills and perspectives that contribute significantly to a company's effectiveness. From innovation and effective communication to adept problem-solving and inspiring leadership, women enrich the professional landscape with a diverse array of talents. I am proud to be the global president of WIZE (Women in Zscaler Engage), Zscaler’s women-led employee resource group. This week we kicked off our month-long celebration for Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. We are continuing to engage in tough conversations both regionally and globally with our allies to elevate women’s voices. There is still a great amount of work that must be done both today and for future generations of women and girls. As Kavitha Mariappan, EVP, Customer Experience & Transformation and WIZE executive sponsor said in her opening remarks at our IWD celebration, “You all are role models to so many in our industry. This is important. Studies show Gen Z girls are 20 percent more likely than boys to say they won’t pursue a STEM career because they don’t feel they would be good at it.” As a woman in tech and mother of five, stats like this push me to expose girls to the importance of STEM and encourage our allies to use their voices. We need everyone involved in this effort! Dr. Gena Cox joined us for our virtual celebrations to share her valuable insights on spearheading inclusion within the organization and the significance of respect, with an emphasis on those who are underrepresented. Dr. Cox shared her model on how everyone should feel valued, seen and heard. As I reflected on Dr. Cox’s keynote, I thought about ways I can, and should, be modeling respect in my professional and personal life. What could I do or say to impact someone’s day, life, or career? We all have a voice and platform, we just need to be shown how and when to use it. I am standing up for women’s rights, for equality in the tech industry, and as a mother I will always stand behind my children and seek to positively impact their future. I believe that, in 2024, we are another step closer to creating a more inclusive environment for future generations, and each individual act matters. This doesn’t just mean in our professional careers, it means taking it into our personal lives. I am invested in myself. I am dedicated to my personal growth and self-improvement to create the best version of myself. I am invested in my children and my family. As a working mother, I am continuously learning to skillfully balance the demands of my professional career while being active in my childrens’ lives. I am committed to showing each of them that they are valued, heard, seen, and loved. I am invested in my community. I am passionate about community engagement in my personal and professional lives. I will continue to empower others and reinforce among allies the importance of collaboration through education while leading by example. Zscaler’s WIZE International Women’s Day celebration also recognized 28 women from around the world with a WIZE Award for their commitment and dedication to making an inclusive workplace through mentorship, community engagement, leadership, going the extra mile, and serving our customers. Thank you to all of our winners and our greater WIZE community for your continued support and efforts to create a safe environment where we can bring our authentic self to work. We hope you join us in celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day 2024!
“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there ’is’ such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On August 28, 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Dr. King made a call for racial and social justice using the phrase “the fierce urgency of now.” He used this phrase to describe the imperative to address racial inequality throughout our institutions and society. It was also a call to action to believe in our ability to affect the world and commit to taking action together to forge a more just society.

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri and having experienced racism at an early age, this speech lit a fire within me. While there are many powerful parts of this speech, “the fierce urgency of now” was what inspired my deep sense of social consciousness and sensitivity to human pain and injustice. From then on, Dr. King was my hero.

Today, I reside in San Diego, California. Many see California as more of a melting pot, however, even though it is the country’s technology hub, the state’s diversity isn’t adequately reflected within the industry. Nationally, Black people make up 12 percent of the overall US workforce, but only represent 8 percent of tech industry employees. The way this plays out is that I’m often the only Black person in the room. For many like me, this is our normal.

When I joined Zscaler in June 2020, I quickly realized the opportunity to increase diversity in our company and industry. At the time, I searched the organization for a safe space to network with like-minded individuals. It was then that I found inspiration in Dr. King's phrase, and during my onboarding I reached out to our CEO to inquire about an Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Black employees. Our executives leaned in to support this request, and provided a foundation and sponsorship to help Black employees launch Black@Z. Several years later, we stand strong in our Black@Z mission to celebrate our Black employees, and provide them with resources and a support network to enhance their experience and their career at Zscaler.

As I reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, there are two questions that I feel are important to ask:

First, if Dr. King was alive today, what would he think of our industry and what would be “the fierce urgency of now”?

On one side, I believe Dr. King would celebrate the advancements and contributions of the Black community in tech—from Roy Clay Sr., referred to as the “Godfather of Silicon Valley,” to Lisa Gelobter who pioneered internet technologies, including her invention of Shockwave. On the other side, I imagine he would decry the lack of diversity and inclusion within the industry.

It’s possible that he would view the lack of representation as a continuation of the systemic inequalities that he fought against during the civil rights movement. He might recognize the threat of some emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, which can unfortunately replicate some of the biases and inequities that exist today, but I hope he would also see the positive opportunities for the tech industry to bring people together and improve the human condition, for all.

Dr. King’s philosophy that all should have access to equity and justice raises the second question I would ask: What can we as leaders in tech do to advance equity and inclusion globally?

I believe diversity in the workplace helps companies be more innovative and creative and, ultimately, achieve better results–and there’s ample data to support this. When it comes to representation, we have to be intentional about our recruiting and hiring process to ensure we’re working to make our organizations more diverse. We should also be championing inclusion in all of our decisions and interactions. I’m proud to share that Zscaler has a focused strategy to attract diverse candidates and foster a more inclusive workplace.

I’m grateful to be part of Black@Z and have support from my Zscaler family, and I’m excited that Black@Z will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by leading a day of service on Monday, January 15 in multiple cities throughout the US. In honor of Dr. King’s legacy and birthday, we are inviting all Zscaler employees and their families to participate.

Dr. King’s words continue to inspire me, and I humbly ask my Zscaler community to embrace “the fierce urgency of now” to fuel our collective efforts in 2024 and beyond, always raising the bar on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our industry.

The CEUR team donated 25,000 euros to the Hummaid orphanage

In February 2023, the Hummaid orphanage in Burkina Faso was officially opened with a Zscaler team of volunteers on site. Since then a director was found to take care of the day-to-day operations and the development of the orphanage’s network of authorities, hospitals and social institutions. And finally, the first 40 young residents – including 25 boys and 15 girls aged between three and eight, and some widowed mothers – moved in this fall.

True to the motto “Sometimes the path only becomes apparent when you start walking it,” there is still a lot to organise, and the internal structures and processes must be tested to determine whether they are fit for everyday life to grow the orphanage to its full capacity. The director has now hired a deputy to help with the running of the orphanage, as well as teaching staff to look after the children in preschool and school. And five of the women who have moved into the orphanage with their children also help with the daily routine of the younger children.

Further expansion will now depend on the experiences of these first few residents. But ultimately, the hope is for the children to have a safe haven in the orphanage for about ten years until they are able to lead an independent life.

Sponsorships for the children

In order to cover ongoing operating costs, Hummaid e.V. has set up a sponsorship platform for the orphanage. It serves to connect children (or “godchildren”) with sponsors (“godparents”) who, through their financial support, contribute to the annual costs (childcare, education and healthcare) of that child. It also aims to facilitate regular information sharing between the godparents and their godchildren.

The first annual sponsorships have already been agreed and arranged by the Hummaid team. However, since there was still a shortfall in the budget needed to financially support all 40 residents, the Zscaler community from the Central and Eastern Europe (CEUR) region once again stepped in to run a creative fundraising campaign during Advent.

As part of the Christmas party for the more than 150 employees of the region, the organisational team hosted an auction, and invited the leadership team to contribute prizes in advance. Ten creative ideas were found, which were then auctioned off to the highest bidders over the course of the evening. The task for the leaders was not only to come up with a creative idea or unusual item, but also to present it through a “3 Whys” pitch to drive up the bids.

The creativity was impressive and the entertainment factor, as well as the commitment of the assembled CEUR team, exceeded all expectations. As soon as the first item went up for auction – a cuddly toy to represent the Munich team mascot Scooby-Doo – it quickly became clear that no one was interested in increasing the bids in ten-euro steps alone. Instead, the stuffed dog finally changed hands to move to the Frankfurt Office for the full annual budget needed to support a single orphan. One bidding war followed the next and the donated ideas and objects couldn't have been more different.

Auction campaign for a good cause

From an online yoga course for a whole team (including walking a real office dog), to a wellness weekend, a team bonding event in the mountains, or the solving of a magic trick, everything went under the hammer. But the leadership team also parted with and pitched their own personal items – from a bread tray, to an autographed book, glittery jacket, and wellness & merchandising package. The highest bid of the evening was ultimately placed for a gold Vreneli from 1929, bringing the auction total to a staggering 25,000 euros.

The Hummaid team was overjoyed by this amount as it will cover the costs of twenty orphans in 2024. At this point, the charity club would like to thank the Christmas party organizing committee for coming up with this brilliant fundraising idea and all the participants who not only submitted generous bids and donations, but came together as one team.

The support for Hummaid shows that a lot can be achieved through the personal commitment of our team members – and it isn’t the only activity that we’ve been involved in this year. In addition to the completion and occupation of the orphanage in Burkina Faso, Hummaid threw themselves into many other humanitarian appeals; from sending a food truck to the earthquake zone in southeastern Turkey in February, to taking part in a Christmas package campaign for children in Ukraine.

The Hummaid team's next trip to Burkina Faso will take place in February 2024 to find out how operations are running. Closely supporting the project will continue to be important for all of us as part of our broader volunteering program: helping others makes each of us a different person. You can find out more about the projects, the orphanage and sponsorship opportunities at hummaid.org.

Meet Sandra WangRole: Sales Engineer, ANZDepartment: CommercialQuestions:

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

My journey in IT began back in university where I pursued a major in cybersecurity. It was during this time that a recruiter approached me with an opportunity to join McAfee as a Sales Engineer. Intrigued by the company's reputation, I decided to take on the role after graduating. You could say that I stumbled into the role of a Commercial Sales Engineer by “accident.”

2. What about your work at Zscaler gets you excited to wake up every day?

I wake up excited to work at Zscaler every day due to the perfect blend of cloud and security, two areas I value in a role. The company's strong brand and high-quality products fill me with pride. As a Sales Engineer, I find fulfillment in going beyond technical aspects and interacting with customers daily. Resolving their issues throughout the sales cycle brings me great satisfaction and fuels my motivation. Making a difference for our customers is what truly excites me at Zscaler.

3. What's the one experience that helped you grow the most (personally or professionally)?

Working with a customer at The Iconic had the most profound impact on my personal and professional growth. It forced me to confront imposter syndrome when the audience didn't understand my message but grasped it immediately when presented by a male colleague. This experience made me reevaluate my confidence and focus on what I could control. I learned to prioritize self-improvement and adaptability, overcoming imposter syndrome and approaching challenges with a renewed mindset. This transformative experience empowered me to grow both personally and professionally.

4. What achievement are you most proud of and why?

I am most proud of landing my first role in Australia straight out of university. As an international student and migrant, my journey has been challenging. Securing this role without a clear career path validated my hard work and marked the beginning of a new chapter. It symbolized my ability to adapt, overcome challenges, and pursue my passion for cybersecurity. This achievement holds a special place in my heart, reminding me that perseverance and determination can overcome any obstacles in achieving my goals.

5. What has been the most impactful event during your career journey?

The presence of an experienced mentor has been the most impactful event in my career journey. My manager at McAfee provided valuable guidance and taught me effective message delivery. Having a framework to follow brought structure and confidence to my role. I appreciate the support of my mentor and manager for laying a strong foundation in presales. Their mentorship shaped my skills and contributed to my professional development, enabling continuous growth in my career. I am grateful for their impact on my journey and the strong foundation they established.

6. Tell us about the importance of connecting to your sense of purpose - what inspires you?

Connecting to a sense of purpose is vital to me, especially in the cybersecurity field. I am inspired by helping enterprises navigate digital transformations and ensure their security. Traveling as part of my role allows me to explore diverse places and cultures, and connect with people from various backgrounds. This combination of passion and engagement fuels my drive to learn, grow, and make a positive impact. With enthusiasm, I contribute to the success of enterprises in their digital transformation journeys.

7. How does well-being fit into your notion of success?

Well-being is crucial to my definition of success. My mindset has shifted from seeking external validation through achieving outcomes to focusing on doing my best and prioritizing my well-being. Recognizing my strengths and weaknesses has been vital. It has helped me understand the importance of seeking help to leverage the strengths of others. This realization brings balance and overall well-being. Success, to me, encompasses personal growth, work-life balance, and nurturing relationships. Prioritizing my well-being and finding fulfillment in all aspects of life defines my success.

8. What do you do outside of work to stay motivated?

To stay motivated outside of work, I engage in activities that bring me joy and help me grow. Spending time with friends and participating in outdoor activities rejuvenates my spirit and provides a well-deserved break. Additionally, I challenge myself to learn something new, such as pursuing cybersecurity certificates beyond what Zscaler covers. This push for continuous learning allows me to broaden my perspective on my role and stay dynamic in an ever-evolving industry. I live by the motto, "becoming is better than being," embracing the idea that constant growth and adaptability are essential. This core belief fuels my drive and motivates me to play hard and work hard.

9. Do you have any tips for someone wanting to work in your role?

Firstly, utilize LinkedIn and social media platforms to connect with professionals in the industry and expand your network. This approach helped me secure my first role at McAfee by attending cybersecurity events and connecting with a TA from my previous company. While technical skills are crucial, don't overlook the importance of developing strong interpersonal skills. Focus on honing your ability to communicate effectively and establish yourself as a trusted advisor. Remember, you are still learning and growing in this area.

Meet Wendy Bartijn

Role: Senior Customer Success Manager.

Outspoken rebel wanting to change the world.

Dept: Customer Engagement

Favorite Quote: Don’t wait to be asked. If you want it, Step up. / Don’t be afraid to be LOUD.
Questions:

1. What brought you to Zscaler?

I was looking for a company in which I could help customers get the most out of the products that they had bought. Zscaler is a company that cares about its customers and creates a structure to make customers successful.

2. After spending so many years with a different organization, what has been the biggest difference you’ve seen in working for Zscaler?

At Zscaler, you still have the space to be creative. When you see something that you would like to change, you can get the space to do that. I was also lucky to join a team of like-minded people. We understand each other, have a lot of fun, and have each other’s backs. For me, that means the world!

3. If you were to think back to the beginning of your career, what would you tell yourself?

A career is not a simple line going straight up, you will take sidesteps, and everything you do will count toward your experience and skills. In the end, it will bring you to where you are supposed to be. And if not, try again!

Find out what you really want and then create a community around you that will help you get there. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.

4. What motivates you every day?

In my work: the fact that every day is different. Different customers but also different activities. From making presentations for a QBR to helping a customer deploy to helping solve a big escalation. I am lucky to work with amazing customers and a lot of very talented people within Zscaler, and we are always striving to give our customers the best experience possible.

In WIZE: To work with so many talented women, and to have a real community with the ladies of the core team. There is still a lot to do, but I feel we make a difference, and I would love to go so much further with this.

5. What experience or lesson has been most impactful during your career journey?

When I started, you had to be ‘one of the boys’ to be accepted. Most of the time I was, and still am, the only woman in the meeting.

At one time a female leader told me to ‘just be myself’.

She made me realize that it is exhausting NOT to be yourself. It took me a while to be able to do that and feel confident about it. Women with a strong voice are, even today, not always appreciated in the business. I am my authentic self, and I am proud to be an outspoken gender diversity advocate. I feel we can do so much more if we work together and elevate each other, both between women, but also in collaboration with men. We are 51% of the population after all 😉

6. If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why?

That would be my mother. She stopped working when my sister and I were born, but she has always supported me in my choices, and my career. Even when I moved to France! Thanks to her, I am who I am today. And I know that she is proud of me.

7. With the holiday season upon us, what are some of your favorite traditions that you look forward to every year?

During the year we are all very busy. My husband and I with jobs (and kids, and the house, etc.) my oldest daughter with her study, and my youngest daughter with school. However, Christmas is for us an amazing time with family. Cooking together, decorating together, and all sorts of activities. It is a time for relaxation, and we all love that. I wish that for everyone!

On Friday, September 22 more than 150 Zscaler product engineers kicked off our first-ever Zscaler Hackday. Participants in the marathon event worked in teams to build out previously approved ideas and then pitch proof of concepts to three judges, all with the potential to help fuel Zscaler’s growth.

Organized by Prasanna Jobigenahally, Sr. Software Architect, Vishal Gautam, Sr. Director of Engineering, and Satish Kalipatnapu, Distinguished Software Architect, teams lived our core values of Innovation and Teamwork for a solid, 24 hours from 5 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday PST / 5 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday IST. The “Barrier Breakers: Sky’s the Limit” theme guided teams as they worked feverishly to build prototypes that could enhance Zscaler’s product offerings through new product features, process and productivity improvements, scaling, and large language models (LLMs).

“In my previous organizations, hackathons were a regular occurrence that cultivated a culture of creativity, collaboration, and out-of-the-box thinking. I wanted to bring that immense value to Zscaler,” Prasanna said. “Our spirit of innovation was already instilled at Zscaler, so we aimed to add to it by creating an environment where breaking barriers and pushing boundaries was not only encouraged, but celebrated.”

With a majority of the engineering team participating, the self-organized teams found rising early to participate in the hackathon offered an opportunity to explore projects that were outside of their usual scope and routine.

“The idea of brainstorming on something new and that was outside of my day-to-day work was interesting,” said Shweta Gupta, Staff Software Engineer. “It allowed me to work on projects that were inspired by the main pain points customers experience in our existing products. It was my first time participating in a hackathon and it was an amazing, fun experience!”

Prior to hackathon day, a submissions call resulted in 70 ideas, far more than the dozen ideas anticipated. Most ideas were inspired by the need to address specific customer and business problems, take advantage of technology trends, and maximize the collective expertise from fellow participating engineers.

Come hackathon day, teams of engineers worked together virtually on their projects, though a few teams worked in the Mohali, India office and a small group spent the night in San Jose, California Headquarters. The groups of three or four individuals moved ideas through brainstorming to design, lending their array of talent and knowledge, creativity, and perseverance to complete their concepts on a short deadline.

“The collaboration within our team was exceptional,” said Akshay Yelmar, Senior UX Designer. “We had individuals with diverse skill sets and backgrounds, which allowed us to approach problems from different perspectives in a fast-paced and dynamic nature.”

Upon completion of their work, teams demonstrated their proof of concept in five-minute Zoom presentations to judges Chakkaravarthy Perlyasamy Balaiah, VP & GM, ZDX - Development, Raj Krishna, Senior Vice President of New Initiatives, and Sanjay Kalra, VP, Product Management - Engineering. Between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. PST / 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. IST Saturday, the judge panel viewed 43 completed concept presentations, asked questions, and then scored each project on three criteria: innovation, execution, and impact.

“Some of the work quality was really great and we are able to embed that work into some of our products with a few modifications,” said Chakkaravarthy. “Additionally, there were several projects related to supportability/programmer productivity. This wasn't expected and was a pleasant surprise, given Chief Technology Officer Syam Nair’s emphasis on rewarding such work which serves as force multipliers for support and engineering.”

Sanjay added: “Witnessing this widespread initiative to not only develop new features, but also to focus on making the product more robust and supportable, was a significant ‘aha’ moment for me. It showcased that these engineers weren't just thinking about the immediate enhancements, but were considering the long-term sustainability and usability of the product."

A total of six winning teams (two per category) received $4,000 to be divided equally, and eight ideas are currently being further evaluated, refined, and developed. This additional vetting ensures the most promising ideas keep moving forward and have a clear path toward implementation and eventual impact within the organization.

Congratulations to all participants on completing their hackathon proof of concepts and for showcasing Zscaler’s high level of innovation and teamwork

Meet Josselyn GrahamRole: Director, Global Customer AdvocacyDepartment: Communications, MarketingFavorite Quote: “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” –Vincent Van Gogh Questions:

	How did you find Zscaler?

The real question is, how do you not find Zscaler? I’ve been working in the cybersecurity industry for over a decade, and Zscaler has always stood out to me as a leader in the space. My former colleague joined the team, and when an opening became available, he reached out and said I would be a great fit for the role. It goes to show how important it is to forge meaningful relationships with your coworkers—it could help land you a role at your dream company, like it did for me.

What is your favorite thing working for Zscaler?

It’s hard to list just one thing, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be the people. I truly believe Zscaler hires the best and brightest in their respective fields. It makes going to work so much more invigorating because you can sense the passion and enthusiasm in every interaction, even over Zoom.

If you were to think back to the beginning of your career, what would you tell yourself?

If I were to give a younger, less tired version of myself advice, I would say, “Josselyn, take advantage of this very moment in time because soon, you’ll have a beautiful family and kids that will devour your afternoons, weekends, and early mornings. Use the extra hours to learn, connect with people at work who inspire you, and ask them to coffee. Be curious, ask questions, and try out different jobs to figure out what drives you to show up to work in the morning.” Flash forward to now, I am so grateful to love what I do, because it makes my time away from my kiddos worthwhile and meaningful while setting a positive example for them. I hope one day they look back and admire me for being a working mom. Not all heroes wear capes!

What's the one experience that helped you grow the most?

For me, it was leaving a job I was comfortable with in exchange for pursuing something that felt challenging, slightly scary, and out of my comfort zone. One of the best ways to grow, both personally and professionally, is to take risks, challenge yourself, and say yes, even when your brain is saying no, no, no. If you’re feeling a little nervous and apprehensive to do something, it’s probably a good sign to JUST DO IT!

What experience or lesson has been most impactful during your career journey?

We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak. I’ve been fortunate to have great leaders who have been instrumental in my professional development thus far. We’re so lucky to get the opportunity to learn from our managers. Don’t take it for granted.

What advice do you have for the next generation of leaders?

A company’s success comes from the team, not individual players.

If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why?

That’s an easy one: my dad. He always shows up ten minutes early, is kind and generous, and puts others before himself. I’ll never be as great as he is, but I’ll give it a valiant effort.

Member Spotlight: Isha GuptaIsha Gupta Regional Sales Manager, Enterprise Q: Tell us about the importance of connecting to your sense of purpose - what inspires you? A: I find purpose in being authentic and going for whatever my goals are. The impact that I create with people by helping them personally and professionally inspires me. I firmly believe you can be a leader in any role, you don’t need the title to practice leadership. Q: What's the one experience that helped you grow the most? A: Earlier in my career I went through some difficulties where I was at a crossroads. I was told at a Tech MNC that I could have an SDR role or go home. I firmly believed I was worthy of an Account Manager role and I held my ground. Three months later, not only did I get the role, I finished that year with a quota achievement of over 226% and kickstarted my career in tech sales. Q: If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?A: It all works out, just have more faith in yourself. Q: What is one piece of advice you have for others to help build and strengthen an inclusive culture?A: Find the quietest person in the room and get their opinion on matters, you’d be surprised to how often the quietest people often have the most creative ideas. We need to encourage ’speaking up’ and this is how we can give voice to diversity and inclusivity. Q: What about your work at Zscaler gets you excited to wake up every day? A: Zscaler encourages independence of thought, which makes me feel like the opportunities are limitless here. I am truly excited each day to discover something new I can do today and where it might take me. Q: What is a quote you live by?A: This quote by Steve Jobs is my favorite and I truly live by it “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.
Meet Natalia WodeckiSenior Director of Global Integrated Marketing Communications & PRAspiring writer & amateur comedianQ: What about your work at Zscaler gets you excited to wake up every day?A: Connecting with my team! A team of animals as cute - if not cuter - than the animals in #z-pets. This includes the extended team, like our agency partners. I’m an extrovert, so I get energy from people. Without them, I wither. Check out #z-pets for adorable pet pictures & #z-news for the morning headlines. Q: What has been most impactful during your career journey?A: --Hot take alert-- Some of my most impactful moments were when I failed. Miserably … at two jobs in a row (Zscaler manager: if you’re reading this, that was in the past and I got it out of my system.) Readers: You’ll have to ask me about the dirty details, but the headline here is that, at the time, I was so scared and ashamed to have failed, but I was wrong. Falling flat on my face made me unbelievably stronger. I can do like 500 push-ups now. In addition, I have a really good story that I’m thinking of publishing someday. Hope you’ll read it! Q: If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?A: Don’t be afraid. You will always be ok, so speak up and take risks. Don’t play it safe. What is the fun in “safe”, Natalia? Thrills reap rewards! If my younger self would say, “please elaborate, Natalia, you're so smart,” I’d go on and say: “Thanks. Ok, so there will be times that it doesn’t feel right, and it’s no fault of yours. When it does feel right, recognize and celebrate each moment you get. Communicate. With your heart. With your manager, your team, and anyone willing to listen.” Q: What tips do you have for building a meaningful network?A: Communicate! But most importantly, listen. Epictetus, a Greek philosopher, said: You were born with two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listen and learn. People around you know when you’re being authentic. In PR, it’s easy to read from talking points, but it doesn’t “work” unless you mean it. When you mean it and believe it, there is an unstoppable power that swells up and manifests in all aspects of your life - people want to be a part of the momentum. The network builds, you’re popular & happy, and it’s all very meaningful. Q: What advice do you have for the next generation of leaders?A: Be kind and scream your passions at the top of your lungs (metaphorically and literally, but only if you’re in a place that is soundproof and you’re not going to ruffle any feathers). The more you shine, the more those around you will, and the world will be better. Don’t stand for hate. Be flexible. Change is wonderful and constant. Oh look, everything is different now, even different than when you first started reading this (assuming you’re still reading this). Q: If you could pick one person who has been influential in your life, who would it be? Why?A: One person? Impossible. My family - mother, father, grandfather. Strong, Polish, and proud. They taught me the art of reinvention. Reinvention is the best part of life. We are so blessed to be able to change and grow. Q: What is a quote you live by?A: Everything will be ok

We’re proud to share that Zscaler was named one of Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Millennials. As a global tech company that’s growing rapidly and expanding our team, this is fantastic news. Congratulations to the entire Zscaler team!

As the Head of Employee Engagement at Zscaler, I lead a team that’s focused on embedding our unique Zscaler culture through communications, engagement and events, a robust diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy, and other efforts to help our employees feel connected, supported, and proud to work at Zscaler. While we aim to be an employer of choice for people of all backgrounds and generations, we’re delighted to receive high marks from our Millennial employees and asked a few of them to share what they enjoy about working at Zscaler.

A common theme across the board was our strong culture of collaboration and teamwork.“In my 9+ years at Zscaler, I have worked with hundreds of people and many departments. Our culture really emphasizes collaboration, inclusiveness and valuing varied opinions,” said Nikhil Mittal, Assistant Controller/Senior Director of Finance, San Jose.

Doing challenging work in an environment that emphasizes learning is also a key motivator. “Working at Zscaler presents interesting problems to solve on a daily basis and the freedom to approach them in a unique and creative way,” said Luke Miller, Principal Sales Engineer, UK. “I’m never short of people who are willing to help and share their knowledge whether it’s my colleagues or our leadership team, who are always willing to spend time to help me become the best version of myself both professionally and personally.”

Daniel Raj, Sales Development Leader, Bangalore, appreciates the inclusion of different viewpoints to advance a common goal. “I’m part of a team where leaders from Australia, Singapore, Japan, and India come together on one platform. We are different in many ways but we all get the opportunity to speak and be heard, and we always think about how the broader team and our customers can win.”

The ability to be yourself at work unlocks so much potential. “Our culture allows everyone to be authentic and share in each other's successes. Every day we all strive to not only accomplish our team goals but personal ones as well,” said Kristin With, Renewals Manager for the Americas, Texas. Flexibility and autonomy are also top priorities. “As a working mom of two, flexibility is extremely important to me. Our leadership works hard to remove roadblocks and improve processes. I've never worked at a place where I felt this much support on a professional and personal level.”

“I appreciate the autonomy I have to manage my own schedule, and the hybrid work model that allows me to collaborate with colleagues in different locations and time zones while also spending time in the office to connect with people in person,” said Rohit Mehrotra, Sales Development Representative, Bangalore. “I also feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for the impact that I can make on the company’s vision and mission, which makes me proud.”

Lastly, giving back to our communities matters to our Millennial employees. “Zscaler’s culture gives us the autonomy to choose how we want to creatively contribute towards the well-being of our communities, nature and its limited resources. Volunteering and other meaningful engagements help to foster a sense of purpose, and meeting colleagues who share these interests is very rewarding,” said Swati Garg, Manager, International Payroll, Mohali.

Undoubtedly, it’s our culture that makes Zscaler a great place to work. But don’t just take our word for it… explore our open roles and come see for yourself why Zscaler is one of Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Millennials!

Today marks an incredible milestone: Zscaler was named one of Fortune’s Best Workplaces in the Bay Area. Although we are global, our headquarters is in San Jose, so receiving this vote of confidence from our employees in an industry and region that’s super competitive is truly outstanding. Congratulations to the entire Zscaler team!

As I reflect on my first year as Chief People Officer at Zscaler, what stands out to me is the strength and authenticity of our culture. Like any company going through hypergrowth, our culture has been tested and we’ve had to adapt and evolve to make sure what’s made us successful in the past continues to serve us in the future. I am proud to say that our values of Teamwork, Open Communication, Passion, Innovation, and Customer Obsession are as relevant and meaningful today as when they were first introduced. I see it in how everyone is always willing to collaborate and help; how we encourage people to speak up, share their ideas, and listen; how we mobilize to achieve ambitious goals; how we’re always focused on where the industry is going next; and how we put all of this to work in service of our customers, partners, employees, and our communities.

Above all, what excited me on day 1 and keeps me excited today can be summed up in one word: opportunity. Being a great place to work is all about creating opportunities for individuals to learn and thrive, and for the company to serve our valued customers, lead the industry forward and deliver on our vision of a world in which the exchange of information is always seamless and secure.

If this appeals to you, I encourage you to explore our open roles and come join us at Zscaler, one of the Bay Area’s Best Workplaces!

On February 26, it was finally showtime: Opening day for the orphanage in Burkina Faso, Africa. Our small team of eight traveled to the facility 30km outside of Ouagadougou and reflected on our journey to this point over the past three years. In 2020, we set ourselves the task of building an orphanage for 120 children in one of the poorest countries in Africa. We worked tirelessly in our spare time to secure financing and construction. As members of the non-profit organization Hummaid, this day was a dream come true for us.

We were able to lay the foundation for the financing of the project through a crowdfunding campaign in which Zscaler employees worldwide also participated. As part of a 200-hour donation marathon, around 80,000 euros were raised on the crowdfunding platform in 2020, an amount that was doubled by the company. This brought us a big leap closer to the originally planned budget of 200,000 euros for building the orphanage. The missing amount could be raised via the Hummaid network, so that in February 2021 the property for the building could finally be acquired.

Flexibility as a builder

Once the foundation stone was laid, the pandemic broke out, shaking the time and budget of our project plan and requiring some flexibility to adapt to changing conditions. Entry and exit to Burkina Faso was also difficult at that time. In addition, raw material prices had exploded worldwide, which also had an impact on our construction. Many building materials intended for the construction of the orphanage had to be imported. For example, the roof of the orphanage was originally planned as a wooden structure. Due to a lack of sufficiently thick tree trunks on-site, metal, steel, and sheet metal were finally used as alternatives. In addition to COVID-19 and rising commodity prices, two military coups and numerous terrorist attacks in the immediate vicinity of the capital of Burkina Faso caused further delays. After all the challenges mastered around the construction, Hummaid was all the happier to have received the operating permit for the orphanage just in time for the inauguration.

To meet the growing costs, the network and the Zscaler staff were once again called upon. For 17 rooms of the orphanage, we found sponsors among the employees, who took over the financing of the interior design – from the dining hall, school room, and kitchen to bedrooms for the children. Creativity was required, as each sponsor was finally allowed to give their room a name.

The endurance test at the inauguration

With great participation of the population, the finished building was finally presented to the public. At the end of February, a delegation from Hummaid and Zscaler welcomed not only the mayor and representative of the German consulate for the inauguration ceremony, but also the children and families from the surrounding area. In addition to the invited guests, the children came to test the playing equipment in the courtyard all by themselves. In the course of the festivity, more than 600 guests were able to get an impression of the premises and equipment and thus the future operation of the facility.

However, until children can actually move into the orphanage, further hurdles must be overcome. For the operation of the facility, it is first and foremost necessary to find a director that fills the project with life on-site. Influenced by the impression of inauguration day, a member from the Hummaid team has agreed to advance the operating concept with the local authorities on-site over the next three months. It is necessary to fill the position of the directorate, which will then be responsible for the search of personnel in order to build up the day-to-day and school operations.

Accordingly, the directorate will cooperate with institutions in the vicinity, such as hospitals and schools, and decide together with the authorities which children will be admitted to the orphanage. One consideration is to also take in widows with their children, who will not only live there, but are also offered a workplace through childcare. Based on the concept children from the age of four can be admitted and cared for in the foreseeable future.

Sponsorships for running costs

The running costs for the orphanage operation with 120 children are estimated at 100,000 euros annually. It is planned to cover these expenses through partnerships for the children. For this reason, Hummaid has already purchased software with which future godparents and godchildren can be networked. Interested parties can preregister under the following email address to receive further information, when partnership program goes live.

By building the orphanage, the Hummaid team has proven how dreams can be turned into reality. The shining eyes of the children, who were already guests at the inauguration of the building, prove the organizers right. They have confirmed once again how helping others makes each of us a different person.
