Heritage-Crystal Clean Enhances Security with Zscaler’s SaaS Web Security

Sunnyvale, California, March, 11, 2009

Zscaler, Inc., the industry-first, multi-tenant SaaS web security service, today announced that Heritage-Crystal Clean has deployed Zscaler services to protect against emerging Web 2.0 threats such as malicious active content, botnets and phishing attacks and enforce business policy for Internet access for users at various locations. Zscaler’s service has significantly reduced IT support and total cost of ownership, and increased security and control over Web 2.0 applications.

Heritage-Crystal Clean is using Zscaler In-the-Cloud service for its employees across various locations, as well as for its mobile users. The existing centralized URL filtering solution was receiving filtering requests from firewalls at all locations; this architecture created maintenance overhead, reporting problems, and didn’t protect mobile users.

With Zscaler, Heritage-Crystal Clean’s 60 Internet gateways simply forward Internet-bound traffic to Zscaler for policy enforcement. This reduces bandwidth usage and eliminates the latency caused by the previous solution. Rather than simply offering basic URL filtering to allow or block sites, Zscaler provides granular policies for Web 2.0 control and data leakage protection.

“Zscaler’s cloud SaaS approach has allowed us to monitor, define, and enforce web security policies for all web enabled devices in our corporation, not just the ones attached to our network.” said Matt Fields, IT Operations Supervisor at Heritage-Crystal Clean.  “Integration with Active Directory, agentless implementation, and service performance were key when deciding on Zscaler”

Zscaler’s global cloud is purpose-built to support a multi-tenant SaaS architecture. The policy and log management is centralized, but the execution of policy happens at its cloud nodes that are deployed around the globe—the only practical way to deliver fast response time.

“Zscaler was designed to support a unified policy for multiple locations and road warriors with minimal latency, the problem that plagues SaaS services that are built upon traditional proxies,” said Jay Chaudhry, CEO of Zscaler. “We are thrilled to provide Heritage-Crystal Clean the rich functionality at a fraction of the cost of other alternatives.”
