Zscaler Protects Against Adobe Acrobat Reader Zero-Day Exploits

Sunnyvale, California, December 16, 2009

Zscaler, Inc., the market leader in cloud-delivered multi-tenant Security as a Service (SaaS), today announced that it has deployed protections for its customers from an un-patched Adobe Acrobat Reader vulnerability that is actively being exploited in the wild.   Zscaler security researchers discovered the new exploit, acquired live samples, and updated Zscaler’s global cloud service to block the threat for its customers.

With Zscaler’s security SaaS service, customers were immediately and transparently protected from the Adobe zero-day exploits seen in the wild.  This comes as welcome news to enterprises, particularly since Adobe has not yet released a patch for this vulnerability.  The challenge of protecting enterprise systems and their mobile workforce can be especially daunting during these zero-day scenarios.  As a SaaS security provider, Zscaler continues to research and monitor threats as they emerge, and incorporate protection into its cloud service to block threats before they ever reach its customers’ mobile users or enterprise networks.

“Thanks to Zscaler’s global cloud with 40 data centers, we were able to rapidly deploy protection to our customers,” said Michael Sutton, vice president of security research, Zscaler.  “This sort of rapid and encompassing protection is something that is missing in many organizations today.  Enterprises need to be proactive in their defense, and not merely wait for software vendors to announce availability of a patch.”

Zscaler had also released a protection for zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6/7 on November 24.
